- (I originally accidentally posted this to c.s.a.graphics, because I
- was clumsy with those big buttons that go click when you press them)
- Greetings!
- Yes, I'm one of the lucky bums with a new Escom 4000 Tower. It's
- great and fast and you should go buy one.
- But, before you do, answer me this riddle:
-
- I have hordes of floppy diskettes. Why is it that when the notch for a
- HD disk is open, the disk will not read or format properly on my machine
- (although it does work in the other computers at the office (all Amigas,
- thank you!)), but when I tape the notch so it is closed (unless it has
- a slider, in which case I actually close it the way it should be closed),
- it reads properly and formats properly.
- Please note: I'm not TRYING to use these HD diskettes as HD diskettes,
- because I was aware that the new Amigas do not use them that way. I'm trying
- to use them as DD diskettes (880K). And they work fine on two other Amigas,
- and possibly more (as DD diskettes).
- I suspect that there is SOME KIND OF MECHANISM that is doing this
- to me, deep in the bowells of the floppy drive. Note that this is what
- was shipped with the Tower, which is still totally stock, so don't give
- me the "Yeah, it's your Emplant board" lines, I won't fall for it.
- Comments? Please post your reply to the newsgroup, as I do not
- read my email very often, and would catch it more quickly if it were posted.
