  15.     Yes, I'm one of the lucky bums with a new Escom 4000 Tower.  It's
  16. great and fast and you should go buy one.
  17.     But, before you do, answer me this riddle:

  19. I have hordes of floppy diskettes.  Why is it that when the notch for a
  20. HD disk is open, the disk will not read or format properly on my machine
  21. (although it does work in the other computers at the office (all Amigas,
  22. thank you!)), but when I tape the notch so it is closed (unless it has
  23. a slider, in which case I actually close it the way it should be closed),
  24. it reads properly and formats properly.
  25. Please note: I'm not TRYING to use these HD diskettes as HD diskettes, 
  26. because I was aware that the new Amigas do not use them that way.  I'm trying
  27. to use them as DD diskettes (880K).  And they work fine on two other Amigas,
  28. and possibly more (as DD diskettes).
  29.     I suspect that there is SOME KIND OF MECHANISM that is doing this
  30. to me, deep in the bowells of the floppy drive.  Note that this is what 
  31. was shipped with the Tower, which is still totally stock, so don't give
  32. me the "Yeah, it's your Emplant board" lines, I won't fall for it.

  34. read my email very often, and would catch it more quickly if it were posted.
